The Ongoing Concept is back! Brothers Dawson Scholz [vocals, guitar], Kyle Scholz [vocals, keys, percussion], and Parker Scholz [drums] along with TJ Nichols [bass] and Andy Crateau [vocals, guitar] have announced the band’s fourth album, Again.
Not only is this the first taste of new music from TOC since 2017, but it also marks the return of the original lineup. Get re-acquainted with The Ongoing Concept by checking out the new single and music video, “Prisoner Again.”
“‘Prisoner Again’ was one of the first songs we started writing, almost got scrapped multiple times, and then ended up becoming one of our favorites in the end,” says Dawson.
“We wanted to bring a classic The Ongoing Concept sound but were struggling in finding a way to showcase a new era of the band. The missing piece of the puzzle was adding TJ and Andy’s vocals to the mix. Along with Kyle and my vocals, you get a taste of the range this album will have. Also, Josh Schroeder (Lorna Shore, King 810) absolutely crushed it with the mix!”
About the new album, he adds: “We wanted to go back to our roots. The goal was to do an homage to our earlier albums, while moving forward. We tapped into the old mindset and combined it with where we’re at now. If we were going to get back together, we knew it couldn’t be underwhelming. We needed to give the fans music that was on par with what we were doing a decade ago, but evolved.”
The Ongoing Concept integrate “lyrics and Easter Eggs” from previous albums into the record’s framework, embodying the title quite literally. “Thematically, the songs are continuations,” Dawson affirms. “Every single song has its own vibe even though some of the lyrics may be connected to older tunes.”
Again will be out March 31 via Solid State Records and is now available for pre-order.
