Chevelle Tour News
Multi-platinum Epic Records recording artists Chevelle will begin a headlining tour in Nashville, TN on 9/11th in support of their new album Sci-Fi Crimes (August 31st – Epic Records). Atlantic Records recording artists Halestorm will open all dates. Prior to the launch of the tour, the band will have a busy day in their hometown of Chicago, IL on 9/3rd. That afternoon, the band will take part in an induction ceremony at the Hard Rock Café. Following the conclusion of that event Chevelle will perform two special hometown shows at the Lasalle Power Company. At 4:30pm that day Chevelle will perform a 30-minute set for the first 350 fans who show up and purchase the new album. Later that evening Chevelle will perform a full set for Q101 listeners. Tune into Q101 to find out how to win tickets for that private show. Chevelle’s first single from their new album “Jars” is well on is way to becoming one of the band’s biggest hits ever. The song is currently at #15 on the modern rock chart and #6 at Active Rock. The band has also just completed their video for the single, which will have two different endings. You can catch the debut of “Jars” Version 1 on MTV 2 and MTVU on August 25th, and “Jars” Version 2 on Yahoo.com on August 26th. Sci-Fi Crimes is the follow up 2007’s smash album Vena Sera. The Chicago-based trio spent seven weeks co-producing Sci-Fi Crimes with Brian Virtue (Jane’s Addiction, 30 Seconds to Mars, Deftones) in Nashville, Tennessee. Formed in 1995, the Chicago-based band has remained a staple in the rock scene with six Top 5 Modern Rock hits under their belt, including the #1 songs “Send the Pain Below” and “Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)” as well as fan favorites, “The Red” and “The Clincher”. The band is made up of Pete Loeffler (vocals, guitars), brother Sam Loeffler (drums), and brother-in-law Dean Bernardini (bass). Chevelle’s new album is the work of a band taking stock of itself after a strenuous decade of recording and touring (“Weird to think we’re a ‘veteran’ band; I’m kind of shocked by how long we’ve been going,” Pete muses) and, especially, a blistering tour schedule behind Vena Sera. Too often lumped into the “just another hard rock band” ghetto, Chevelle emerges with Sci-Fi Crimes as an admittedly heavy-sounding group whose wit and intelligence now stand fully revealed.

Inhale Exhale Prepare To Bury Fans Alive
Cleveland, OH experimental metalers INHALE EXHALE have announced an October 6, 2009 release date for their bombastic third album, Bury Me Alive, on Solid State Records. The follow-up to 2008’s buzz-inducing I Swear…, the new album is a career-defining exercise in dynamics and energy, combining squelchy, feral guitars cascading off of commanding screams and pleading melodies. It’s a dizzying give-and-take of brawny riffage and chiming, atmospheric guitar tapestries. “With Bury Me Alive, we really sat down and tried to do something different and fresh for our fans,” explains guitarist and principle songwriter John LaRussa. “We feel like this is the album they wanted us to write also. There is a lot more energy in the songs, and we stepped it up a notch on heavy progressive side of things.” After releasing two rapid-fire albums in just over two years, the members of INHALE EXHALE enjoyed a brief but well-earned respite in early 2009, during which babies were born and marriages were performed. But, following a few idyllic months off the road, the boys are keyed up for another round of revelry with their fans, centering around the release of Bury Me Alive. Tour plans to be announced soon. Says LaRussa: “We are the most excited we’ve been since the creation of INHALE EXHALE. This is the first record that we all really sit and listen to and enjoy 100%, and most importantly, we really are all on the same mindset as a band and as friends, and we’re excited to hit the road to support this album.”

Sherwood Announce Release Of Highly Anticipated New Studio Album
California alterna-popsters Sherwood announce the release of their highly anticipated new album Qu out October 13th on MySpace Records. Recorded in Los Angeles with renowned producer Brad Wood (Liz Phair, Smashing Pumpkins, Sunny Day Real Estate) the album features 11 original tracks written by all five members. The result is a refreshingly catchy and precise pop record. Sherwood will be hitting the road on September 17th when they join Better Than Ezra for some select dates before heading out on a full tour of North America with Hanson, Hellogoodbye and Steel Train that kicks off September 30th at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, OK and takes them through November. Qu is without a question the band’s most mature album to date and the result of nearly a year of work. In July 2008 the five members of Sherwood – Mike Leibovich (keyboards), Dan Koch (guitars/vocals), Nate Henry (vocals/bass), David Provenzano (guitar/vocals) and Joe Greenetz (drums) – squirreled away in a rented apartment in Oakland, CA and dove head first into writing music. Never having this kind of freedom to write, they devoted countless hours each day to crafting song after song, a process which Leibovich says “felt like we were testing our limits and abilities.” They emerged 9 months later with 85 songs which they carefully narrowed down to 11 before heading into the studio with Wood. Sherwood first formed in 2002 and following their self-released EP in 2004 they landed on Vans Warped Tour and signed to SideCho Records to release their debut album Sing, But Keep Going in 2005. It didn’t take long before the band caught the ear of the one and only Tom Anderson of MySpace fame and became the first signing to the MySpace Record family. Sherwood released their sophomore album (and MySpace Records debut) A Different Light in 2007 and the record soared to No. 12 on Billboard Heatseekers Chart, No. 38 on the Independent Albums Chart and has sold 50,000+ copies to date. In addition, the band is no stranger to the road and have trekked across the states on numerous successful tours alongside artists the likes of Motion City Soundtrack and The Academy Is among others. Now Sherwood is ready to release their new full-length studio album Qu this fall and is set to make their make their mark on the collective consciousness with this excellent new CD. Head over to their myspace for the most current info and accurate list of tour dates.
Red To Hit The Inaugural “Class Of 2009” Tour
Red will go out with platinum-selling Rock band Saving Abel (who is headlining) the inaugural “CLASS OF 2009” TOUR, with Pop Evil and Taddy Porter along for the ride. The excursion will get underway on October 27th in San Antonio, TX and continue until the end of the year. The first leg of dates will go on sale the weekend of August 28th, with additional blocks of performances to be announced shortly. The concept behind this new annual tour is to bring together rock artists who have achieved substantial TOP TEN hits at radio in the current calendar year. Each year, an unsigned band, a.k.a. “The Freshman,” will be selected to open the show for the full tour, providing an opportunity that is nothing short of a launching pad. Each of the acts on the inaugural run outside of Taddy Porter (this year’s “Freshman”) is riding major airplay at radio, and could be touring as a headliner on their own. The submission process outlining eligibility for consideration to be “The Freshman” for the “CLASS OF 2010” tour will be unveiled soon. Headliner Saving Abel is the first act in over three years to have three top five rock hits off their debut release. The band’s debut singles” Addicted,” “18 Days,” and “Drowning (Face Down)” have delivered a massive fan base for the Corinth, MS. quintet. Saving Abel’s biggest hit “Addicted,” was a #1 rock hit, crossed over to peak at #7 on Billboard’s Top 40 Airplay Chart and also sold over a million downloads. Both RED and Pop Evil have had hits in the Top 10 this year and are quickly becoming staples at rock radio as well. Saving Abel guitarist Jason Null offered, “I love the idea of this tour. Not only do we get to tour with some of the other hit makers of 2009, we also get a chance to help break a new artist. This is a great line-up that our fans and rock fans in general are going to be way into. We can’t wait to get out there.” The concept behind the “CLASS OF” tours is the collective brainchild of Rick Smith, Scott Frazier and Larry Mestel as their first project for Primary Wave Music Management along with booking agent Justin Hirschman from Artist Group International. Future tours in the coming years will be staged, with the intent to see the concept grow exponentially in terms of the number of bands, venue sizes, and attendees. As the years pass, the moniker will change annually reflecting the year the excursion hits the road. Primary Wave Music Management partner Rick Smith offered, “The fans across the country continue to support rock music. It is increasingly harder to break a new band. Our plan is to provide a stage for new bands to play in front of large audiences.” Scott Frazier added,” I laugh when I hear industry people say there’s nothing new and good to sign. I live where the audience lives and this tour is for them.” This upcoming semester should be like no other… Class is in Session.

Thousand Foot Krutch Rocks The Sports World
As ambassadors from the rock world to sports arenas across the nation, rockers Thousand Foot Krutch pumped up NFL fans this past weekend in Florida at the Jacksonville Jaguars pre-show concert in the end-zone of the stadium pavilion. The band enticed fans with the live performance of two new songs (”Fire It Up,” “Bring Me To Life”) from their upcoming release “Welcome to the Masquerade.” After the pre-game show, the band watched the game in the Jacksonville Municipal Stadium from a bird’s eye view in a special suite with former Jaguar Tony Boselli. This concert is just one of many sports arena appearances this band has rocked with their fist-pumping tracks. With their wide spectrum of sports coverage, Thousand Foot Krutch has become a staple in this area delivering fast-paced, positive rock anthems. Rock-n-roll has always been present in the sports sector getting fans on their feet to cheer on the athletes. TFK has developed over the years as one of these bands who intertwines rock and sports. TFK jump-started their year with their performance at the ESPN / ABC Winter X Games in Colorado after being voted by fans as winners in the Taco Bell “Feed The Beat” competition. This summer the band’s hit song “Fire It Up” has had multiple plays on the Versus’ Network with IndyCar races, including a new usage this past weekend. The network also showcased “Bring Me To Life” on August 23rd in Sonoma, CA. In July, “Fire It Up” was featured on ESPN NASCAR’s nationwide series featuring Kyle Busche. The hot single will also appear in EA Sports NHL 2010 video game. Many fans and listeners of Thousand Foot Krutch were first introduced to this band with in-your-face rock and catchy songs via the sports realm whether it be at an arena playing songs like “Move” “Rawkfist” or “Absolute” to watching Ultimate Fighting champion Joe Lauzon and his theme song “Move.” It was “Rawkfist” that became one of the first great sports anthems of the 21st century being heard everywhere such as on major networks CBS Sports, Fox Sports NFL, ESPN and NFL films. The NCAA also jumped on board with this accelerating music as the Oklahoma University Sooners played “Move” when team entered the Boomer Stadium during the season. In addition the 2005 Big Ten / ACC Challenge also utilized “Move” during the tournament. Other sport sectors that have used TFK’s music include the Major Baseball League and the National Hockey League. Other TFK sports highlights include: ESPN “Ultimate Highlight,” “Winter X 13,” Dew Action Sport Promos and Arena football. Thousand Foot Krutch will release “Welcome To The Masquerade” on Tooth & Nail Records on September 8th. The band will also be on the Creation Festival: The Tour this fall beginning early September. Visit the tour’s
site for a city near you. Today, TFK is launching their newly designed website as well as their iTunes pre-sale for $9.99. The band urges fans to pass along the website link as well as help spread the word on Twitter, Facebook and by word of mouth to include everyone at the masquerade in just two weeks.
Owl City News
Owl City, the solo electro-pop project of Minnesotan daydreamer Adam Young began three years ago, when he began recording warm, shimmering tunes in his parents’ basement in off-hours from his job at a soda warehouse. His songs quickly became a MySpace phenomenon and his devoted online following helped Owl City score a deal with Universal Republic Records, who released Young’s major label debut, Ocean Eyes. Owl City’s sound is often compared to the Postal Service thanks to his combination of hushed, lovelorn vocals and chirping synthesizers (and Young’s uncanny vocal similarity to Ben Gibbard). But for Young, Owl City owes its sound to a combination of extremes, describing his music as a mix of the pure pop of Taylor Swift and the lush ambient techno of the German electronic label Kompakt. According to Young, “There’s something about that kind of electronic music or that kind of pop that allows me to mix melody and melancholy.” As with lots of escapist art, Owl City’s music was dreamed up in the most mundane of settings. “About two years ago I was working at a Coca-Cola warehouse all day,” Young says, adding that he worked with nice people, but the tedium of loading trucks led his mind to wander. “It allowed me to sort of dream up these projects. One wound up being Owl City. I thought through how I wanted it to sound, how I wanted the records to look, everything. Sometimes working in a monotonous environment can really free up your imagination.” While Ocean Eyes is rife with aquatic imagery and a sense of adventure, it was recorded in the total seclusion of a windowless basement. For Young, the two are related. “A lot of it has to do with me being by myself while creating it; no producers, no engineers. And that approach allows me to think more freely, I think.” While recording alone in a basement might not sound like the most inspirational of settings, Young used simple decorations to inspire his creativity. “I have a lot of landscape paintings to look at; lots of ethereal, dreamy nature photography. Having that stuff around really creeps in subconsciously to impact the music.” While Young owes Owl City’s early success largely to MySpace, he never thought of it as an Internet-only project. Despite the fact that individual songs like “Hello Seattle” have racked up over 6 million plays, for Young, it was one part of a whole. “I never wanted to let the platform limit me. I was always thinking about songs coming together as an album, and eventually having actual physical distribution, rather than just MP3s online. I think the connection you can make with people over the internet is pretty unique and spectacular, but I also think it’s a means to an end; you still want people to be able to hold your music, and you want them to be able to see you play.” Check out their new video here.
MAE Continue With 2009 Goal
Without a proper record label, the alternative rock group MAE found themselves with no limitations, which inspired the band to find a way to do the two things they love most: creating music and helping others. The Virginia trio–DAVE ELKINS (lead vocals/guitars), JACOB MARSHALL (drums) and ZACH GEHRING (guitar)–is in the midst of a social movement they call “12 Songs, 12 Months, 1 Goal: Make a Difference,” whereby the band is releasing three separate collections of music–(M)ORNING, (A)FTERNOON, and (E)VENING (physically and digitally)–and partnering with charitable and humanitarian organizations to make a direct and positive impact. So far, MAE has raised $50,299.50 in 2009. First up, after their limited edition printing sold out, MAE will officially release (M)ORNING, in stores September 22 via the band’s own imprint Cell Records which is now in partnership Tooth & Nail. MAE has teamed up with their former label Tooth & Nail to distribute the three releases. (M)ORNING includes the original eight songs in addition to a special DVD documentary which portrays how the group developed the “12 Songs, 12 Months, 1 Goal” campaign and follows them achieving their goal of making a positive impact in the world. A limited edition version of (A)FTERNOON will also be available during the band’s fall tour—only 2500 copies of the tour-only edition–and includes eight new songs MAE recorded on their spring tour earlier this year, including their current single “The Fight Song (Crash and Burn).” Individual songs for (M)ORNING and (A)FTERNOON are also available for download with a minimum donation of $1.00 through the band’s official website which has allowed the group to raise funds for charitable causes. MAE first stepped into their local community of Newport News, VA–in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity–to build a home for a family in need. The trio fully funded the single family home through fans purchasing the new music off their website. For (A)FTERNOON, MAE has aligned with Donors Choose. This organization helps teachers across the country directly get the supplies they are lacking for their classrooms. “We’re thrilled to team-up up with Donors Choose,” explains GEHRING. “There are so many schools and teachers around the country whose budgets are slashed. The education of young people shouldn’t be compromised due to problems they have no control over. Every child needs and deserves a proper education.” In addition to donating proceeds from their music sales, MAE will also donate their time along the way. They will participate in local community outreaches at every stop of the fall tour. Before each show, the band–along with their local fans known as the “Maeteamers”–will volunteer at local community serving events such as soup kitchens, homeless shelters, clothing and food drives, etc. After each show, MAE will perform an acoustic set for donations, all of which will go directly to the local chapter of Donors Choose. Their mission is to impact a school in every state in the country. This fall, MAE will launch their U.S. headlining tour beginning September 24 in Carrboro, NC and wrapping November 28 in Honolulu, HI. Newcomers Deas Vail will join on the full run, with Locksley and Jenny Owen Youngs revolving in the opening support slot. Although music has always been the fundamental means of their expression, MAE’s greater purpose has always been to provide something more–a Multisensory Aesthetic Experience designed to cultivate growth and welcome possibility. That purpose, embodied in the band’s name, permeates everything they have done and everything they continue to do. For the (A)FTERNOON tour, the trio will now incorporate the sensory stimulation of touch into their shows in addition to their stunning 3D projection visuals and “rub and smell” scented CDs–the (A)FTERNOON tour-only edition will feature a new scent–which first debuted on the Spring tour. The combination of these elements will create a unique experience allowing fans to be transported to another level.

Christafari Makes ‘No Compromise’ With New Album
Two decades in the making, Christafari’s latest album No Compromise (Lion of Zion Entertainment) is an exciting milestone marking the band’s 20th anniversary. With 15 new gospel reggae anthems and an arsenal of guest appearances, the new album blends Christafari’s signature roots reggae sound with elements of hip-hop, dancehall, soca, worship and even rock, showcasing an unprecedented new gospel sound – a fitting nod to Christafari’s past, and a bold step into their future. Coming off their 150-city “To the Foundation” World Tour (21 countries before crowds as large as 80,000), Christafari hit the studio in March to record No Compromise, which was released on August 18th (Infinity Music Distribution). No Compromise has long been a theme with Christafari, mentioned in songs like “Christafari,” “Warriors,” “Soul Fire” and “WordSound&Power.” It also pays homage to Keith Green, one of the greatest influencers in Christian music (who had an album and biography by the same title). True to its name, the album delves into various hot button issues like abortion (“The Protestors”), Rastafarianism (“Gwaan Natty”), falling away from God (“That None Should Fade Away”) and marijuana use (“Pure Meditations”). On “Most High,” for the first time on a recording, Christafari founder and vocalist Mark Mohr vividly shares his testimony as a drug and marijuana addicted youth. The chorus tells of his salvation and that “there is no high like the Most High!” In celebration of Christafari’s 20th anniversary, Mohr made a surprising announcement at this year’s Marlin Awards in the Bahamas: “Given the present financial turmoil that many of us are facing, for three weeks prior to the street date, we’ve decided to give away our next album as a download for whatever you can afford. If you don’t have the money, then our next album is on us. That’s right, it’s free!” This download special remains available for a limited time and the response has been immense. During the first few days, Christafari’s servers crashed twice because of the sheer volume of traffic. In promotion of this album, Christafari is presently on a 20-day European tour playing major festivals like Frizon and Flevo. Avion Blackman, Dominic Balli, Solomon Jabby and Jennifer Howland are opening all current tour dates. Future tours in the USA, South America, Central America, the Caribbean, Africa and Australia are planned for 2009-2010.
