Gihon - 2024

Today, HM is proud to premiere “Drift,” the debut single and music video for progressive metal project Gihon, helmed by multi-instrumentalist and producer Dhananjay Pepalla.

“Drift” is set to release tomorrow on all major streaming platforms, but fans can get an exclusive sneak peek on HM Magazine.

Emerging from Athens, Texas, Gihon has quickly forged a reputation as a project that defies genre boundaries. Blending hard rock, modern metal, and emo influences, Gihon delivers a unique sonic experience driven by ambient soundscapes, cinematic textures, and intricate guitar riffs. The band’s debut single is no exception, kicking off Gihon’s string of 2024 releases with driving energy, lyrical depth, and dynamic soundscapes.

“‘Drift’ explores the complex layers of what it could mean to lose a loved one,” Pepalla shares.

“It’s meant to be a picture of the lasting impact of loss, and how it shows back up in both painful and beautiful ways if we let it. It came from a deeply personal place, channeling the emotions of feeling lost and disconnected, but also finding the strength to carry on.”

The collaborative track features vocalist Anna Carroll and marks the beginning of a new era for Gihon. “I’ve always wanted to create music that resonates on an emotional level, while also pushing boundaries sonically. ‘Drift’ is the perfect representation of that vision,” says Pepalla. “It’s the culmination of years of growth, experimentation, and finding my sound.”

With plans to release more music in the coming months and build a live lineup, Gihon ultimately aims to leave a lasting impression on the modern metal scene. “Drift” is just the beginning…
