Josh Scogin Unleashes Side Project
Serving as full-time vocalist and songwriter for noise rock/metalcore contortionists The Chariot Josh Scogin is known to the general public for (as a review on Absolute Punk proclaimed) “chaotic music that consistently bashes your skull in.” However for the past few years rumors and news of a side project dropped in outlets such as Alternative Press of a foray into alt country songwriting. That project is A Rose By Any Other Name which is releasing a debut album One For My Master, One For My Dame. On full display is Scogin’s melodic croon, warm acoustic guitar washes and depending on the songs a bevy of backing instruments. Scogin who has been working on this album in-between The Chariot’s non-stop tour schedule started recording these songs as long as four years ago. Scogin reveals “I have been writing songs that were very chill since late high school days and 2 of the songs were from back then. The music I create for A Rose By Any Other Name is a better representation of what I listen to on an average day. I typically love music that is either the most insane thing ever or just the most chill and nonchalant thing ever. I rarely find pleasure in much in between. So I think it is just a natural direction for me, in contrast to the intense heavy music that I have done for so long now. An interesting side note is that I find that the more I play A Rose stuff, the more extreme The Chariot becomes. One benefits the other that is for sure.” A family affair, good friends and peers have added to the songs Scogin recalls “Matt Goldman, who recorded all of The Chariot albums as well as working with Underoath and Copeland plays drums, Lou from the band Gasoline Heart adds bass, backing vox and some guitar depending on the songs. Many more friends who are not necessarily in any bands or anything have contributed pieces here and there as well.” Scogin has played some impromptu shows with his acoustic doing material from A Rose By Any Other Name but on the subject of touring he says “The Chariot rarely stays off the road long enough for me to do anything else so I don’t plan to do a full tour this year but I won’t rule out shows here and there.”

Haste The Day Release New Track
With a little over a month to go until the release of their anticipated fifth album, Attack of the Wolf King, HASTE THE DAY are unleashing the dogs on rabid fans with the release of the album’s second track, ‘Dog Like Vultures.’ The track can be streamed on the band’s MySpace page. “‘Dog Like Vultures’ is crucial part of this record,” explains vocalist Stephen Keech. “It shows all elements of the record and sums up the new sound of HASTE THE DAY. The record is a concept album about a herd of sheep being protected by lions from a pack of bloodthirsty wolves. This song is where the Lions vow unyielding protection over the sheep. Promising that “no fang will breach your fleece” and “their blood with flow like water.” It has one of my favorite chorus’ on the record and we are proud to release it.” Available in stores 6/ 29th via longtime label Solid State Records, Attack of the Wolf King shows a band who are already amongst the metalcore elite reaching frenzied new heights for what, nine years into their existence, could be their career-defining album. For Today Hit The Studio
For Today have begun recording their new album at The Machine Shop with Will Putney (bloodsimple., Haste The Day) handling the production duties. The follow up to 2009’s Portraits will be called Breaker and is expected to be released later this year. In the meantime, you can catch For Today on the Scream The Prayer tour this summer. We asked Mattie about For Today’s progress on the new album: “For about two weeks now, we‘ve been working on recording our new album out here in New Jersey at The Machine Shop. It’s so amazing to see these songs beginning to come together! This album is shaping up to be the heaviest, most intense, confrontational material we’ve ever released, and we are all so ready to get it out. The album will be called “Breaker”, and stands as a post in the ground, signifying a moment that has been in the works since before the foundations of the earth were laid. I see a generation of hopeless, abandoned, and addicted people finally having the chains of deception broken off of them, and being sent forth, no longer as broken people, but in unity, as the Breaker. This album is their manifesto.”

Flyleaf Post Free Song
Flyleaf is celebrating their alliance with World Vision to help stop human trafficking with a free MP3 of “Set Apart This Dream.” “When we were recording the song “Set Apart This Dream” for our new cd, “Memento Mori,” I was thinking about the innocence that is so easily and often stolen from so many kids. Today, there are 2 million children around the world who are victims of sex slavery. We named this tour Unite and Fight because sometimes we have to fight violence with peace and that takes unity. We have to fight thieves who steal children and sell them with generosity. This also takes unity. It’s our way of bringing a bit of attention to a grave matter. All of us who are in a safer place have the ability to help lift some of the burden of such a heavy and disgusting injustice. If you text UNITE to 20222, $10 will be added to your cell phone bill and a donation will be made to World Vision’s effort to rescue the victims of sex slavery.”
For your efforts we would like to offer a free download, enjoy! — Lacey from Flyleaf
House Of Heroes Ready New Album
Gotee Records band House Of Heroes is set to release their latest effort, SUBURBA on August 3, produced by Mark Lee Townsend (Relient K, Deas Vail) and mixed by J.R. McNeely (The Almost, Paramore). Suburba is an album like nothing else you will hear today. And for that fact alone, it is a victory of epic proportions. Endlessly poppy, galactically ambitious, and dripping with honest, candid emotion, this is what a rock record is supposed to sound like. This is what a rock record is supposed to feel like. “I like this album because we chose to write about things that we knew,” states frontman Tim Skipper. ”We wanted it to sound very American and full of youthful energy. We kept a lot of what we loved about the last record, but we just applied it differently and I think it came out exactly the way we wanted it to.” See the ‘God Save The Foolish Kings’ lyrics video today at the band’s totally revamped official website.

To Speak Of Wolves Rock The Radio
The buzz-inducing debut from Greensboro, NC’s TO SPEAK OF WOLVES – Myself < Letting Go – dropped May 18th and hasn’t wasted time creating a stir at radio. The album debuted at #37 on CMJ’s Loud Rock Select Chart, and the track “Dimming The Lights” bowed at #33 on Loud Rock Select Tracks – impressive numbers for a debut. Myself < Letting Go has already garnered critical praise from outlets such as AOL/NOISECREEP, ALTERNATIVE PRESS, DECOY MUSIC and more. Mixed by metal mastermind Jason Suecof (ALL THAT REMAINS, AUGUST BURNS RED, TRIVIUM), Myself < Letting Go is the debut full-length from Greensboro, NC’s TO SPEAK OF WOLVES. The band has crafted an album that careens wildly between brutally bombastic riffage and soaring, arena-worthy choruses. On the impressive debut, vocalist Rick Jacob’s voice both hammers and haunts, vaulting seamlessly from sky-high melodies to visceral screams.
Pre-Owl City Demos To Be Released
Adam Young was a mere teenager in Owatonna, MN when he wrote and recorded his first collection of songs under the moniker Sky Sailing. Never expecting these early recordings to see the light of day, he’s excited to be able to share these songs with you on July 27th when Universal Republic releases An Airplane Carried Me to Bed. The album offers 11 songs that trace back the genesis of Adam Young as a songwriter and showcase a simple innocence through their sound and openhearted lyrics. The world got their first peek into the world of Sky Sailing a few weeks ago when Adam quietly posted demo versions of two songs that will be on the album, “Brielle” and “I Live Alone,” on MySpace. Written and recorded nearly three years ago, the songs that Adam Young did as Sky Sailing reflect the wonder and excitement of an artist when they’re going through the process of discovery and everything is new to them. Adam was working the early shift as a metal worker during this time period and spent the night hours escaping through his dreams and music. With an acoustic guitar and some basic computer and recording equipment, he took himself on a fast and furious journey crafting and honing his skills as a musician and an artist and writing 11 songs that he squirreled away until now. It’s been more then two and a half years since Adam Young wrote these Sky Sailing songs and just in the last year alone, this young man has been on a tremendous life journey. Having travelled the world and met thousands of people over the last 18 months, the upcoming release of Sky Sailing’s An Airplane Carried Me to Bed is a homecoming of sorts, a return to a time when things were pure and simple. Sky Sailing – An Airplane Carried Me to Bed – is due out July 27th on Universal Republic.
