In its ninth year, LoveFest is happy to announce their 2011 lineup, focusing on the topic: EMPOWERED. Held on February 12 and 13 in Arcadia, CA, LOVEFEST 9: EMPOWERED guarantees to be of interest to all in attendance with compelling discussion and entertainment where youth and adults can examine the challenges facing teens in their daily life. Hosted by Our Savior Lutheran Church, LoveFest will feature Bristol Palin, Chad Eastham and Karen Kropf as keynote speakers, and Dove-Award winning Group 1 Crew as Saturday entertainment.
LoveFest 9 will to continue its blatant and frank conversations for teens on the topic of abstinence, as well as straightforward discussions about sex that too often the church shies away from. This year’s breakout sessions include classes and topics for teens, young adults and parents, including Bullying, Sexting, Adoption, Drug Use, Peer Pressure and Gangs, Body Image, Depression, Raising Adult Children, Internet Dangers and How to Have “The Talk” with Your Child.
In keeping with this year’s theme, LoveFest 9: Empowered is based on the verse Philippians 4:13: “We can do all things through him who gives us strength.” Through God’s empowerment, teens can know they are able to live lives that are full of meaning and purpose.
Keynote speaker Bristol Palin comes right off her time on Dancing with the Stars to speak to attendees about pregnancy prevention, abstinence, faith and life. Bristol, Sarah Palin’s oldest daughter, will speak to her peers about her very public teen pregnancy, the birth of her son Tripp and the incredible challenges of balancing life as a mother and a teenager. Bristol has recently become the Teen Ambassador for the Candie’s Foundation, which works to educate America’s youth about the consequences of teenage pregnancy.
Author and Revolve Tour speaker Chad Eastman shares the stage with Bristol, as the resident expert on Guys and Relationships. Chad speaks to thousands of teens each year and is a column writer and teen culture expert for HealthyVisions.org. His three books, award-winning health curriculum and educational DVDs have truly set him apart as the go-to for deciphering why teen girls and guys act so differently. Chad will be speaking about his new book that will release at LoveFest called The Truth About Dating, Love and Just Being Friends
Karen Kropf has been a LoveFest favorite, and returns to examine how culture influences the kind of story our lives will tell. She will be teaching one of her most popular classes “Worth Waiting For” which reflects on how early decisions about sex and relationships carries on throughout our lives. Karen runs the non-profit Positively Waiting, which is a community outreach dedicated to revealing the positive benefits of sexual self-control.
Group 1 Crew will bring their unique combination of urban grooves, hooky choruses and substantive lyrics to the Saturday LoveFest event. The Dove-award winning trio has created a sound and style all their own that is a combination of melodic pop, Spanish R&B and soul-stirring words. Attendees are sure to be inspired by the music of Group 1 Crew.
The host of the event, Our Savior Lutheran Church, has been a local leader in reaching out to families, addressing issues from the cradle to the grave. Over the years, the Church and its Senior Pastor has, and continues to offer, marriage and parenting enrichment courses, grand-parenting courses and sex education seminars. LoveFest, their annual gathering, has attracted participants from throughout the United States and Canada.
