GMC TV, America’s favorite channel for uplifting family entertainment, announced today that it will present the world television premiere of Abel’s Field, the moving story of a teen’s struggle to heal in the face of almost overwhelming adversity. The film stars Kevin Sorbo (Christmas Angel, Soul Surfer, Meet the Spartans) and Samuel Davis (Parkland) and will premiere exclusively on GMC TV on Sunday, February 24 at 7, 9 and 11 p.m. ET.
In the town of Sinai, Texas, football reigns. But high school senior Seth McArdle (Davis) has little time for it. Seth is a hard working teen saddled after his mother dies with the physical and financial responsibility of taking care of his young twin sisters. Abandoned by his alcoholic father and shunned by his older brother, he has no support system. To add to his beleaguered lot, he is bullied and pegged by the local athletic high school stars as a loser from the wrong side of the tracks. Set up for failure, he becomes the whipping-boy of the school’s seeming elite and in turn the football coaches are deceived into believing he is a trouble maker and serve him with a month of after-school labor as punishment. There, he finds himself thrown together with a highly unlikely support system – the mysterious local school groundskeeper, Abel Adamson (Sorbo), a taut, bitter stranger working part time as the school groundskeeper.
As Seth is encouraged to triumph over adversity, he also begins to find a broader support system allowing him to grow inwardly. His confidence returns, and in the process, Abel also begins to open up and is able to heal through faith, love and friendship.
“Abel’s Field is a story that speaks to the human spirit and underscores the point that people are often mischaracterized and unfairly judged,” said Leslie Glenn Chesloff, EVP, programming, GMC TV. “This inspiring film demonstrates that we need not give in to how we are labeled, and that we can overcome negative outside influences to become the kind of person we want to be.”
Abel’s Field is directed by Gordie Haakstad. Written by Aron Flasher. Producer is Tore Knos.
