Today, HM is proud to premiere “Substrate,” the newest single by UK metalcore 5-piece, InRetrospect, available everywhere January 21. The song kickstarts the band’s new EP cycle and is partnered with a music video that showcases the band’s fresh direction, image, and style.

In their new single, InRetrospect animates their core beliefs in a relentless barrage of harmonious noise, aiming to change the insatiable existential crisis known as the modern world.

We spoke with guitarist James Bayliffe about the new track:

“’Substrate’ is the metaphor carrying the message of addiction, relapse, and the inability to overcome the urge and need for substance. Not all people in this situation are written off by any means, most of the time they’re just merely misunderstood and need someone to help them hit reset.”

He continues: “Throughout this energetic first single, we have focussed on exploring and pushing the boundaries of our sound after solidifying our grounds in a heavier environment. In doing so, we have created an opening track that’s as explosive as it is creative and exciting to listen to. Driven by destructive yet catchy rhythm sections, exciting guitar leads, and a wider range of vocal styles, ‘Substrate’ aims to speak from the perspective of consciousness, out of touch with an individual that can’t see the mistakes they’re continuously making. The pain and emotion that goes alongside this track was captured perfectly by Mike Bennett (Foxhound Studios) and visually by Shaun Hodson (Loki Films) and has since become a favorite amongst the band.”

‘Substrate’ is not a story of demise, it’s a calling to EMBRACE ETERNITY.
