HeartSupport is an organization close to my heart. The nonprofit, started by August Burns Red frontman Jake Luhrs, has helped countless individuals overcome their addictions, heartbreaks, loneliness, anxieties and a myriad of other afflictions, and they are readily available, even if it’s just to be an ear for those who are hurting. The organization is important to me because I have been that person in need. I have been in places where I don’t know where to turn and my loneliness and addiction are about to swallow me whole. I was their perfect candidate. As HeartSupport’s ever-presence around “The Scene” and at shows would indicate, they work extensively to be there for you — yes, you, reading this right now — wherever you are when you need help the most.

And now, they’re bringing a new program straight to your computer. You don’t even have to leave your house, something that was, at one point, quite literally my biggest fear.

To Those Hurting

In the new year, the organization’s Restore Program will launch — we talked about this a little last month; you can learn more about it by watching the video on this post — and it is something HM is going to be actively supporting. Restore, an online-based recovery plan of action, will you better access to helpful tools for breaking through their barriers, and it will come from people you recognize and look up to, people who have been in your shoes, can speak your language and have worked very hard to make a new life for him or her self, propped up with the tools necessary to work through their problems in a healthy manner. Because of our support, you will see a few more posts about it in the future, especially around the time it launches.

At one point in my life, I was so riddled with addiction and social anxiety, I couldn’t leave my house except to go to work. One of the best parts about this program is that it allows you to connect to help wherever you are. When you’re so far gone it’s tough to even leave the house, this program can come to you.

A number of organizations exist to beat their own chests, but I can say with confidence the men and women behind HeartSupport exist solely for you, the ones that need it most. If you’re doing well or have your own story, I hope you, too, will join HeartSupport, alongside this magazine, to help provide strength and support — whether physically or financially — to those that need it most.

Look for more in the next week…
