The Showdown To Unleash New Album
Tennessee’s riff-tastic southern metal outfit, The Showdown, has announced an 8/24th street date for their Solid State Records sophomore release, Blood in the Gears. The forthcoming full-length was recorded at Anthem Productions in Nashville, and produced by The Showdown’s own, Jeremiah Scott. The album’s title track, and first single off the record, is available for streaming on the band’s official MySpace page. Blood in the Gears is The Showdown’s fourth studio album, and the follow up to 2008’s, Back Breaker. “Blood in the Gears is true to what The Showdown has always been about in the past,” explains vocalist David Bunton, “…heavy, thrashy, southern, groovy. Jeremiah Scott (Bass) recorded and produced the record, all in house and on our own terms. We are sounding like we want to and saying exactly what we want to. That’s what heavy metal is all about.”
Track Listing:
1. Man Named Hell
2. Heavy Lies The Crown
3. Bring It Down
4. Take Me Home
5. Blood In The Gears
6. Dogma Enthroned
7. No Escape
8. The Crooked Path
9. Graveyard Of Empires
10. Diggin’ My Own Grave
Founded in 2003 by current members, David Bunton and Josh Childers, The Showdown literally came roaring out of the gate with the monstrous, yet spiritually gripping debut, A Chorus of Obliteration, in 2004. Despite numerous line-up changes, The Showdown has prevailed as one of Christian metal’s longstanding veteran acts. With several high profile tours under their belt, including a run on Ozzfest in 2007, and treks with Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, Norma Jean, As I Lay Dying, and more, The Showdown is set to once again crack up the throttle on Blood in the Gears.

The Devil Wears Prada Kick Off New Tour
Rockstar Energy Drink has partnered with one of the brightest rising stars in the metalcore world, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, who will play the biggest venues of their career, and probably the smallest. Twenty-five thousand screaming kids one night, then 250 hot and sweaty fans the next. A much-anticipated venture for a band that regularly plays to sold-out crowds of 1500-2500. Voted 2009’s Band of the Year by the readers of Alternative Press, The Devil Wears Prada – vocalist Mike Hranica, guitarist/vocalist Jeremy DePoyster, guitarist Chris Rubey, bassist Andy Trick, keyboardist James Baney, and drummer Daniel Williams – are packing their bags for a relentless summer tour, interspersing performances at ten major, outdoor festivals with multiple nights headlining small, intimate clubs. The “Back to the Roots” club dates will kick off on Saturday, 6/19 at The Arbor in Memphis, TN and play 40+ “roots” shows through to the end of August. Joining TDWP on all “Back to the Roots” dates will be Miss May I and Your Demise. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased through The Devil Wears Prada’s website or MySpace page. “One of the primary elements of the ‘Back to the Roots Tour’,” Hranica explained, “is playing a few Dear Love songs that we have not played in a long time, and probably will not play again or anytime soon. We have not built the precise set list yet, and I know it will not entirely be composed of older Dear Love songs, but there will definitely be more in there than what we usually do.” One highly-anticipated stop on TDWP’s summer trek will be their career-first show in Tokyo on 8/8. The band will be part of the lineup for 2010’s Summer Sonic Tokyo Festival at Marine Stadium, playing in front of their biggest audience ever – 60,000 people. Most of the band’s U.S. festival performances will be at Christian music festivals (all members of the band are Christians) and will include Ohio’s Alive 10 Festival (23,000), Milwaukee’s Summerfest (10,000), Cornerstone Farm in Georgia (15,000), and Minnesota’s Sonshine Festival (20,000). The complete, combined itinerary is below. The major summer festivals and “Back to the Roots” tour follows the band’s first-ever headline tour of South America which took place May 8-16, and all dates are in support of the band’s most recent album, With Roots Above and Branches Below. Released in May, 2009, the album debuted at #11 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and set off a series of events that lead to a huge break-out year: slots on the Warped Tour Main Stage, the Rockstar Taste of Chaos and Sounds of the Underground festivals, co-headlining the November/December, 27-date Napalm & Noise Tour, main support on the recent Killswitch Engage Tour, and cover features in Outburn, HM, AMP, Revolver and Alternative Press. Live, the six-piece The Devil Wears Prada presents a powerful intensity that many other bands never quite achieve, with savage riffs, sinewy guitar melodies, thunderous beats, manic synths and an assault of abrasive vocals.

Owl City Set To Record Follow-up Album
Owl City’s Adam Young has retreated to the studio to start work on the follow up to his platinum selling debut album – Ocean Eyes (Universal Republic). After spending a good part of the past year on the road in support of Ocean Eyes, this admittedly shy and introverted artist is thrilled to be home and working on his next album. However the break will be a short one as the band is already scheduled to hit the road again in early August. Owl City will be heading out as main support for Maroon 5 on a string of East Coast Dates starting on 8/5th and ending on the 15th when the tour makes a stop at New Jersey’s PNC Bank Arts Center. Directly following these dates, Owl City will head West to join up with John Mayer on 8/18th at the Cricket Pavilion in Phoenix, AZ. Again as main support, Owl City will tour the West Coast, South and Southeast with Mayer including stops at the Shoreline Amphitheater in San Francisco on 8/20th and the legendary Hollywood Bowl in LA on 8/22nd before ending the run on September 11th at the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, FL. Then in November the band will be heading overseas for a six week international headlining tour of Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the UK. The past year has been a whirlwind for Owl City who has gone from being an unknown artist from Owatonna, MN to an international phenomenon. His debut album Ocean Eyes was released in 7/2009 and went platinum on April 1st, 2010. The first single “Fireflies” is now triple platinum and hit the #1 spot on the Hot 100 twice as well as going #1 in 22 countries around the world! He played his first live show in February of 2009 and has been on the road with his band since May of 2009 on several consecutive sold out headlining tours in the US and abroad. With a platinum debut album, an international hit single, an impressive touring record and a slew of critical acclaim (New York Times, Rolling Stone, People, Entertainment Weekly, USA Today, etc.), Adam Young is amazed by everything he’s accomplished as Owl City this past year and even more excited about what’s ahead.

Switchfoot Announce Bro-Am Lineup
The 6th Annual Switchfoot Bro-Am presented by Hurley will feature performances by Timmy Curran, Dynamite Walls, Jon Foreman and Friends, OK Go, Chris Shiflett & The Dead Peasants, The Almost, Kate Voegele and Young the Giant. The concert/surf contest will take place on Saturday, 6/26th, at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. The event will benefit San Diego and Oceanside, CA chapters of StandUp For Kids, a national nonprofit volunteer outreach organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of at-risk, homeless, and street kids. Funds will be raised at a pre-event auction night set for Friday, 6/25th, as well as from beach vendors, sponsors and an after-party at the Belly Up Tavern. Admission to the beach concert is free to the public. “The Bro-Am has been my favorite day of the year ever since we started it back in ’05,” says Switchfoot’s lead singer, Jon Foreman. “To see our hometown come together to help out a deserving group of kids is an incredible experience — surfing, music, and the San Diego scene at its best. Last year was our biggest year ever, and we hope to top it again this year.” “StandUp For Kids is extremely proud that Switchfoot has chosen our Southern California programs as the beneficiary of their Bro-Am again this year,” notes Rick Koca, founder and CEO of StandUp For Kids. “Their dedication, support, and commitment to the homeless and street kids of Southern California is unequaled. For Jon and the band it isn’t just about raising funds, but getting to know the kids and the volunteers. Their impact in Southern California is felt long after the last surfboard is put away, the last song has been played, and the last fan has left the beach.” The 2009 Bro-Am raised $100,000 for the charity and drew a crowd of over 7,000. This year’s surf contest participants include riders representing Hurley, Billabong, Surfer Magazine, Jedidiah, Surf Ride, Macbeth, Jet Pilot, AKA, Surfline.com and SIMR Surfboards, as well as professional surfers Rob Machado, Tom Curren, and Timmy Curran, and members of Switchfoot. In addition, there will be a nerf surf jousting exposition between surf contest heats and an expression session. Clothing brand Hurley will also have its “Phantom Truck” on location, allowing beachgoers to customize boardshorts, win prizes, and potentially win an all-expense-paid trip to Indonesia with Rob Machado and the Hurley Team. The Switchfoot Bro-Am will again work with San Diego-based Sustainable Waves to offer cutting-edge solar-powered sound and staging. Sustainable Waves utilizes the renewable energy sources of the sun to deliver 100% pollution-free concerts. At night, the festivities move from the beach to The Belly Up Tavern in nearby Solana Beach. Teva and Switchfoot will host an after-party there featuring the Bro-Am All-Stars – an all-star cast featuring Switchfoot’s Jon Foreman and Bro-Am performers past and present – plus Silent Comedy and The Howls to raise additional funds for StandUp For Kids. Party attendees will get a firsthand look at the illum, Teva’s new surf-inspired flip-flop. Tickets to the after-party are $19 ($17 in advance).

Call To Preserve’s New Album Out Now
The new Call To Preserve album is out now! Indie Vision Music had this to say about the new album: “Another excellent release from Call to Preserve. They do not attempt any genre-bending to try to please the masses. This is straight up old school hardcore and they do it very well. If you liked Call to Preserve’s previous work, you will definitely appreciate their latest effort.”
