Today, HM is proud to premiere the new lyric video for “Empire on Fire,” the latest release from Names Without Numbers. The track features vocals from Matt Baird, vocalist of the Christian rock band Spoken.

The four-piece emo-rock indie-power-pop band hails from the Nebraska/Iowa area and have been friends for quite some time, forming in summer 2020 and releasing an EP and a full-length before putting things on hold. In 2019, the band released new music, Silos and Smokestacks, funded in part via IndieGogo.

We spoke with guitarist Dave Owens about the creation of the new song:

“As we were writing ‘Empire on Fire,’ we knew it was going to be aggressive and needed a heavy vocal. We came up with a shortlist of people we thought would complement the song, and, when James Hetfield wasn’t available, we went right to Matt Baird. His addition to the song and vocal style fits perfectly. Matt is an outstanding individual and we are honored to work with him on this new song.”

Baird also weighed in on working with the band:

“I’ve been a fan of Names Without Numbers for over a decade, so doing guest vocals on ‘Empire on Fire’ is much cooler for me than it was for them. I’m so thankful to be a small part of their journey as a band and as people.”
