Alive in Barcelona - 2022

Today, HM is proud to premiere west coast hard rock band Alive In Barcelona’s new single, “Decay.” This is the final single before the release of their emotionally heavy and sonically tremendous Flatline EP, dropping tomorrow via Smartpunk Records.

The collection of tracks, co-written with Landon Tewers (The Plot In You), is equal parts heavy and melodic, showcasing the band’s range of masterful rock instrumentals and soul-penetrating vocals.

We spoke with guitarist Jesse Barton about the new track:

“‘Decay’ is a song about falling out of love with something you hold most dear. For us, it was about the music industry and the growing distain we felt during the pandemic. Not knowing if we would ever get back to playing music again was a very hard thing. There was a lot of uncertainty in the world. From that mindset, ‘Decay’ was written.”

He continued: “We teamed up with some friends back home at Make Waves Entertainment and shot the music video for ‘Decay’ locally which was really a fun thing for us to do. We bribed a security guard at an abandoned aluminum factory in Mead, WA and it turned out to be one of the sickest backdrops for our new video. It was a hard filming process as it was one of the longest and days of shooting we have ever done as a band but ultimately I think it’s one of our all time favorites.”

Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, the five-piece has been to hell and back, suffering losses both personal and public. The group refocused their efforts in order to pursue a message of hope after losing many friends to depression, substance abuse, and consequently, suicide. Persevering through the death of Jesse’s Father, a mentor and confidant for the band, AIB has set out to seek the lost, the broken, and the hurting. Their struggles with loss, emotional pain, and grief have paved the way for them to develop their mission statement: “to inspire hope in those that have none.” This EP is a true example of that mission coming to fruition.

“We are really excited to release this EP,” added vocalist Matt Hoos. “Our roots are seeded in heavy music and I think these songs do a great job staying true to that, all the meanwhile, trying to encompass the way that people in different societies around the world are feeling. We hope that our music speaks to fans and newcomers alike and that each listener finds a deeper personal meaning in each track.”

Flatline is available everywhere tomorrow, November 4, and is now available for can pre-save.
