Glasslands, the trailblazing post-hardcore band known for their unique blend of heavy riffs and atmospheric post-rock, has just released a new single, “The Ether.”
The song came together in collaboration with Beartooth bassist Oshie Bichar and showcases the band’s aggressive approach, while seamlessly incorporating profound melodic sensibilities. Angular riffs build to crescendos of visceral intensity, supported by intricate percussion and electronic layers. The band strikes the perfect balance between a radio-friendly sound and the raw authenticity that fans have come to expect.
Vocalist Josh Kincheloe shares more about the new track:
“Because of Covid, our last album release was delayed. Though we are proud of that record, the songs were already over two years old by the time it even dropped. So, ‘The Ether’ is the first time we’ve gotten to work on something new. Collaborating with Oshie was a lot of fun. We went in with a few demos and came out with some dope tracks.”
As to how the song and video came together, he continues, “The whole process of how ‘The Ether’ came together was a lot of fun. From the writing and recording to DIY filming our music video on a ’90s tape camera we thrifted, we’re stoked on how it all turned out!”
The release of “The Ether” follows the 2022 release of Glassland’s second full-length album The Deep. Drawing inspiration from a fictional protagonist named Mr. Creeps, residing in the enigmatic location known as The Deep, Glasslands’ concept album delved into themes of failure, insecurity, grief, and depression. The album served as a catalyst for self-examination, encouraging listeners to draw parallels to their own lives. Kincheloe elaborated about the album’s theme:
“There’s a lot of anger, sadness, and resentment on this record. It’s not something that was intentional, but I’m a believer in allowing myself to feel what I’m feeling. The Deep is essentially a storyboard of my struggles and my journey through them.”
The new single is equally personal, finding Kincheloe at a crossroads in his life. “I nearly gave up, and that’s what this song is about.” In true Glasslands style, the raw emotion and creativity embedded deep within their musical DNA is front and center in “The Ether,” driving the band full-force into their next chapter with blue skies.
With their unique fusion of heavy riffs and atmospheric post-rock, Glasslands has established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. Their latest single sets the stage for their future musical output and continues to push the boundaries of their genre.
