Today, heavy quartet Lives Lost dropped their new EP, Home and have offered HM an exclusive track-by-track breakdown of their latest release.

Formed in Hershey, PA, Lives Lost burst onto the scene post-pandemic, with a weighty hybrid of alternative rock and tenacious metalcore. The quartet explore love, loss and the human experience, with social issues and the growing pains of life at the forefront of their introspective lyrical output. Their debut EP, 2023’s A Portrait of Loss conceptualized these themes, taking listeners on a journey through the state of grieving, after the loss of a loved one.

New collection Home is a resonating set of tracks, as Lives Lost hone a pinpoint blend of thunderous instrumentation and compelling storytelling. Crushing percussion and riveting riffs feed a buoyant parlay of heavy and melodic. From the deft clean/interplay of “Chin Up Kid” to the powerful riffs of “Numb The Pain” and the pinpoint metalcore of “Salt The Wound”, the EP will resonate with the listener both sonically and lyrically.

The cascading and anthemic “Found” ft. Kellin Quinn is a fitting final stop on the journey Home. The track delves into the journey of finding love and connection amidst personal struggles. The dynamic vocal interplay between Tanis Pellegrini potent lead and Kellin Quinn’s unmistakeable signature style, creates a powerful and emotionally charged listening experience.

Hear what lead vocalist Tanis Pellegrini has to say about each track on their new EP:

“Chin Up Kid”

This is a defiant anthem about overcoming childhood adversity and life’s trials, facing down inner demons and external pressures, all while extending a hand to those struggling alongside them. It’s a call to arms for anyone who has ever felt lost, broken, or alone.

“Numb the Pain”

A raw and honest portrayal of the struggles with mental health, substance abuse, and suicidal ideations during late adolescence and early adulthood. This song is a testament to the battles we face within ourselves. It’s about the hard-hitting truth that numbing our pain only delays the inevitable—confronting our inner turmoil head-on.

“Salt the Wound”

“‘Salt the Wound” is an exploration of the complexities of family and the impact of generational trauma. It’s about recognizing the patterns, the inherited struggles, and coming to terms with the fact that you can’t change the past or the people who are part of it. It’s about finding a way to accept them and, ultimately, accept yourself.

“Found” feat. Kellin Quinn

“Found” is a deeply personal song for me. It’s about the unwavering love I have for my wife and how we found each other despite the heartache we both experienced in our home lives growing up. It’s a testament to the power of love to heal and create a home within each other, no matter what your past looks like.
