NEW YORK, NY & LOS ANGELES, CA – February 10, 2010 – Indaba Music, the top online destination for music creation, is proud to announce today that Weezer fans and fellow musicians can now visit http://www.indabamusic.com/remixweezer to remix the song “Love Is the Answer” from their recent album Raditude. A public vote will determine the top 10 winners to receive a signed copy of the new album and be featured on both weezer.com and www.myspace.com/weezer. The Grand Prize winner will also have the opportunity to participate in a one-on-one Indaba Music collaboration with Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo to create an entirely new song.
The “Love Is the Answer” Remix Contest launches today, February 10th and further details will be revealed by the band’s Pat Wilson on their own Artist Personal Experience (A.P.E.) radio station, “Radio Weezer.” There will be a four-week submission period and a two-week voting period. Weezer, an A&R executive from Interscope/Geffen and Indaba Music will also hand-pick the top remixes from the semi-finalists for a commercial release, and the artists will be paid appropriate royalties for their contributions. “Love Is the Answer” embodies the collaborative spirit integral to Indaba Music, as the track has already seen multiple versions and an international spin. “Love Is the Answer” was written and recorded by Weezer for Raditude, but before the song was finished, the band and their friends Anada and Amrita Sen did a different version of the song. The band liked the resulting Hindi version so much that they put it on the album. “The idea here is people do their own version of our song based on the music they are into. Hopefully we will get versions of the song in other languages, and in a bunch of different musical styles. It would be great if people got inspired to try new things and are really creative. I love Amrita’s singing on our song and I was really happy when that version made it on Raditude,” said Weezer’s Wilson. “The other part of this contest that is cool is a bunch of these remixes will get officially released and the people that worked on it will get paid their royalties for being on the compilation.” Through Indaba, the original tracks have now been made available to members to re-imagine the song themselves. The original track can be previewed along with the transformed Hindi version at http://www.indabamusic.com/remixweezer. The band is excited to hear how Indaba’s community will revolutionize the song again. Weezer and Cuomo have an on-going relationship with Indaba Music. Cuomo has used the platform for several collaborative sessions, including most recently to finish demos while recovering from his recent bus accident that left him laid up for several weeks. Rivers Cuomo has recovered well and Weezer will be back on tour this spring and summer with stops at music festivals like Bonnaroo and Bamboozle. “I’m Your Daddy” the second single from Raditude is racing up the Alternative Radio chart and is on a path to be as successful as the lead track “(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To.” ABOUT WEEZER ABOUT INDABA MUSIC http://www.weezer.com |
