HM EXCLUSIVE: Stream Kings And Daughters' New Single, 'Of Dust And Starlight' PLUS #TBT Before There Was Rosalyn

Between EPs, Kings and Daughters has still been recording material and HM is happy to get our hands on one today. “Of Dust and Starlight” is the new single, and vocalist Carlos Salazar wanted to write a special note to listeners about the track.

This is the first song Trent (Gibson) and I have written since we put out The Lion EP. It’s great getting back to the studio and working with Aaron (Isbell) because there is never any pressure to do anything we don’t want to do. Lyrically, I’m striving to be more honest, to be more self-revealing than I’m comfortable with. I may not be a good man, but I’d like to be a decent one, and it’s my hope that revealing myself will help me become that.

May the bridges I’ve burned light my way back home. I’ve watched everything I’ve ever loved turn to dust and fade away in front of me. I know loneliness is a tempestuous sea and tonight you swim alone. But I’m still here. I’ve buried my best friends and with them pieces of me have gone. I am not a good man. I can’t save you. I am not a prophet or a savior, but if your knees feel weak mine can be the hand you hold to show your demons you’re not in this fight alone. The stars come alive in me. You can taste them on my lips and feel them in my breath. We are all afraid of drowning but you’re safe here with me. My whole life I’ve never quit at anything because I’m an addict and they’ll praise me and curse me for it to the grave. Where you and I must both one day go. We’ll one day go. I’d rather die with my heavy heart on the ground than lie empty in the grave buried beneath the immeasurable sound of a voice that still begs to be found. So take my hand, I’ve got enough fight in me for the both of us. They’ll praise and curse us to the grave.
