If I had a record label, I would sign Silent Planet. This is phenomenal prog-metalcore from an incredibly talented group. Today, they’re premiering the music video for their first single, “Tiny Hands,” from their upcoming EP, lastsleep. HM spoke with the band for a little behind-the-scenes information about the track and video:

On June 10, 1944, a group of Nazi soldiers locked the women and children of a small French village inside their community church, subsequently setting fire to the structure while shooting their rifles through the windows. “Tiny Hands (Au Revoir)” tells the story of Marguerite Rouffanche, a French woman who was the sole survivor of this church massacre of Oradour-sur-Glane.

Madame Rouffanche was shot five times while protecting the children, which included her own daughter, but ultimately managed to escape through a stained-glass window where she hid for a day among pea plants until the Nazi soldiers vacated the area.

We believe that the Gospel is more than a text with a scriptural canon. It is an active story of resistance against the violence of imperial powers for the Life of this world. Because of this, our historical protagonists are the small, marginalized names that one won’t find enshrined on great monuments or caste into statues, but instead echo throughout the upside-down Kingdom comprised of what Jesus called “the least of these.” It is our goal to edify you, Reader, with stories that remind us our our mothers, daughters, and sisters whose stories remind us of the paradox of losing our lives to find life.

“Tiny Hands (Au Revoir)” is the first of five stories from the EP. It will be released both physically and digitally on Jan 2nd. We’ll have our eye on them in 2014.
