Underøath’s 2018 reunion release, Erase Me, set a cathartic new precedent for the metalcore veterans. Today, the band is back with “Hallelujah,” the second haunting single from their next record, Voyeurist, set to release January 14 via Fearless Records.

Like most of the band’s music, the song pushes boundaries and takes a bold approach to what it’s like to wrestle with life and faith. Featuring signature Underøath elements — from the choral chant that pays homage to the band’s earlier work, to Spencer Chamberlain’s nostalgic melodies and Aaron Gillespie’s untamed drumming — “Hallelujah” ties together the band’s entire journey, from sound to story.

Guitarist Tim McTague has this to say about how the track came together:

“I think the song is one of the more powerful songs on the album for a myriad of reasons, but sharing a night of beers and stories with a handful of the people you love, unpacking a ton of heady concepts, and recording a choir really put an exclamation point on the song for me. It’s dark, beautiful, haunting, and heavy all at the same time. That’s what Underøath does best in my opinion.”

Voyeurist is now available for pre-order, along with exclusive merch on the band’s website.
