Two decades ago, a single act of compassion for one person in crisis quietly ignited a global movement. Today, the life-changing, mental health non-profit To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) celebrates its 20th anniversary with the release of the powerful new documentary TO WRITE LOVE. The film commemorates the many artists, advocates, and partners who have helped to amplify its mission over the years. It serves as a powerful testament to what happens when vulnerability provides hope and becomes a lifeline to millions.

TWLOHA has grown to be one of the most trusted and beloved voices in the alternative music scene, advocating for mental health services and hope for decades. The documentary weaves together conversations with some of the organization’s most influential supporters – including Paramore, Miley Cyrus, Anberlin, Switchfoot, and more – with the voices who work tirelessly every day to bring resources to those in need. You’ll hear from the voices that started it all, those whose lives were changed, and the dedicated individuals who continue to make honest conversations and accessible care possible decades later.

“We’re incredibly grateful to celebrate 20 years and to share the ongoing story of this movement. The documentary weaves together the voices of the people who kept fighting for this conversation, for their own stories, and for their communities,” shares Executive Director Lindsay Kolsch.

“What you experience in this film is a true picture of what happens when thousands of people start to believe that it’s not weak to ask for help, and that sharing our stories gives others permission and courage to do the same.”

The film explores what happens when vulnerability becomes action and how you can play a role in getting people the help they need and deserve. It’s a story of a growing chorus of hope that turned into a lifeline for millions.

“This movement has played a significant part in why the conversations around mental health are no longer ones people feel they have to keep quiet. We made this documentary with the hope that it moves anyone still sitting in silence. We want people to know that hope is real, help is real, and your story matters,” Kolsch adds.

This Fall, TWLOHA will host live watch parties with special guests who have played a role in their growth over the years, and are set to announce a screening house tour to activate and engage communities around the nation. Previously hosted livestream guests included Kevin Lyman, the founder of Vans Warped Tour. Their goal is to fund 20,000 hours of mental health care and therapy through peer support. Every screening hosted brings that goal closer to reality.

Whether you gather a few of your favorite people for a friends and family screening or organize a larger community screening (designed for groups of 20+), hosting a screening is a direct and meaningful way to make a difference.
