SXSW Music Announces Panels, Bands and the Launch of the Event Schedule

The start of South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Conference and Festival is quickly approaching and countless events are being finalized. In preparation for 6 full days of events, SXSW Music presents a sampling of new panels, specialized programming for musicians, band highlights and the launch of the event’s schedule at sxsw.com. SXSW takes place Tuesday, March 13 – Sunday, March 18, 2012 in Austin, Texas at the Austin Convention Center and at numerous venues throughout downtown Austin.

SXSW has always been about the music and the people who make it happen. This year, the SXSW Music Conference is proud to launch Artist Central, an area featuring programming specifically geared towards musicians. Highlights include digital recording software clinics by instructors from Berklee School of Music as well as instrument clinics on guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and more. Artist Central will be located in Ballroom E of the Austin Convention Center and will run Wednesday, March 14 – Saturday, March 17, 2012 and is open to SXSW registrants and official showcasing artists with wristbands.

There is no shortage of notable speakers on panels this year. Renowned chef and winner of Top Chef All Stars, Richard Blais sits in on the panel “Snacky Tunes: Food, Music & Internet Radio.” Artist Gloria Gaynor discusses the legislation that allows authors to reclaim their copyrights after 35 years on “How Stella Got Her Masters Back: Reversion Rights.” Entrepreneur and Former Executive VP of The Island Def Jam Music Group and Warner Music Group, Kevin Liles, talks about the many aspects of artists’ brands on the panel “Taking the Throne: The Brand is the New King.” Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel S. Eriksen, collectively known as StarGate, sit down for an interview to discuss their successful careers working with artists such as Ne-Yo, Rihanna, and Beyonce. Founder and CEO of turntable.fm, Billy Chasen, joins the panel “Social Music Strategies: Viral & the Power of Free.” Andrew W.K. will examine the influences of the occult in rock music on the panel “Blood Music Sex Magick.” Over 450 panelists are slated to converse and network in the friendly confines of the Austin Convention Center.
