Silent Planet – 2021

Silent Planet has shared their long-awaited first release of 2021, “Panopticon.” As could be expected, the band’s latest track is as brutal and intellectually complex as human nature itself.

Inspired by French philosopher Michel Foucault’s work and criticism of the panopticon disciplinary concept — where prisoners are positioned in cells around a central surveillance tower, allowing only one-way observation and constant exposure — Silent Planet pushes back against cultural constructs that bind the human soul and strips it of its will.

According to Rock Sound, vocalist Garrett Russell had this to say about the song:

“‘Panopticon’ paints a dystopian view of the future — one where technological advances have pacified the human spirit and made us apathetic in the face of an increasingly malevolent, post-singularity AI that was developed under the premise of security… ultimately becoming a tyrannical overlord. To communicate the story of humanity and its traditions being outmoded, we challenged ourselves to write a song with no guitar. Using only bass, electronic elements, and percussion — we developed this track over the course of the summer.”

“Panopticon” is out now. The band will also be returning to the road this fall. Show dates are listed below and tickets are now available.
