OH, SLEEPER To Release ‘Stand Your Ground’ Game For iPhone/iPod Touch March 20th

High-intensity side-scrolling iOS game marks the first foray into releasing a full-blown game for OH, SLEEPER and Solid State Records

Includes 8-bit versions of OH, SLEEPER songs

Solid State Records and OH, SLEEPER are excited to announce “Stand Your Ground”, a full-fledged and immersive game for iPhone and iPod Touch, coming to the App Store March 20th.

The side-scrolling arcade-style game focuses on the character of Gage Ryan, a warrior dispatched to lead an army against the forces of savage darkness in a barren post-apocalyptic Earth. Players will fight through multiple levels of challenging enemy forces and strongholds, earning resources along the way which can be used to summon allies and more. And what game would be complete without power ups? “Stand Your Ground” has plenty that can be used to obliterate all the enemies on the screen. Complete with a deep storyline and a rich cast of characters, “Stand Your Ground” will appeal to fans of games like Swords and Soldiers, Plants vs Zombies, Patapon, and even Golden Axe.
“We are so pumped to release this project to the masses,” explains OH, SLEEPER frontman Micah Kinard. “This adventure allows the gamer to step into the boots of a warrior, pick up his axe, and traverse through the storyline of our latest album, Children of Fire. We are always looking for ways to allow our listeners to delve deeper into our concepts and we think ‘Stand Your Ground’ is the perfect way to do this. Plus, who doesn’t love video games!?
The game’s soundtrack will sound familiar to current OH, SLEEPER fans, with “retro” midi versions of 10 of the band’s songs providing the soundscapes as player do battle. In addition to the immersive gameplay and storyline, multiple game modes provide re-playability even for those who have conquered the main game itself.
OH, SLEEPER has been a steady force in the world of heavy music, touring relentlessly with the likes of BRING ME THE HORIZON and FALLING IN REVERSE and, in the process, building a devoted fanbase passionate enough about the band to emblazon themselves with OH, SLEEPER logo and lyric tattoos. The band’s 2011 album, Children of Fire, debuted at 142 on the Billboard 200 and garnered critical praise for both the band’s lyrical creativity and musicianship.

While the band is no stranger to potential app buyers, with Children of Fire hitting the #1 album on iTunes Metal chart and mainting Top 10 status months after the release, the debut of “Stand Your Ground” marks a new and interesting creative milestone for OH, SLEEPER.

OH, SLEEPER is currently touring the US in support of THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA (dates below). “Stand Your Ground” is available on the AppStore March 20th.

HM covers from over the years

HM Magazine Turns 35

In 1985, Doug Van Pelt photocopied a letter-sized sheets of paper, bound them together, and handed them out in person on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. It's all digital now, but, along the way, Van Pelt stirred up quite a few waves, played some seriously heavy music, and made a few friends along the way. Here: A quick look back at the magazine's 35-year history with Van Pelt and new owner, David Stagg.

Comrades 2020

Becoming Comrades

The trio of Comrades – husband and wife Joe and Laura McElroy alongside drummer John Gaskil – is used to living in a van and touring the country. Now, their new normal has provided them with a moment to "be adults" for once. We recently sat down with the McElroys to talk more about the spiritual reality within life, how soon they'll be able to release new music, and how koalas are their new normal.

My Epic performing their last final show before COVID-19

Between the White Noise

My Epic's last full-length album came out in 2013; despite a number of EPs along the way, the band's dedication to their craft, lyrical approach, and unyielding approach to let the music come naturally has made them critical darlings. Now, they're learning to interact and feed a rabid fanbase in between albums and in a new normal.
