Colony Collapse - 2021

Today, HM is proud to premiere “The Love That Remains,” the new video from Rocky Mountain metal newcomers Colony Collapse. Following their summer release, “Paranoia Agent,” Colony Collapse continues to deliver a relentless assault of resonating breakdowns and pinpoint melodic injections, a heavy but unerringly engaged brand of metalcore.

We spoke with vocalist Noah Khorey about the new song:

Saudade is a word unique to the Portuguese language. It describes a longing for a happiness long past, or perhaps one which never fully existed — a melancholy nostalgia. The theme of ‘The Love that Remains’ revolves around Saudade, borrowing author Manuel de Melo’s unique definition of the word in the chorus — ‘A pleasure you suffer, an ailment you enjoy.'”

He continued: “Love is an emotion that can embody what it means to feel alive or otherwise create a void in its absence, leaving behind a profound sense of longing. Questions like ‘What could have been?’ ring in our ears and we bid for new beginnings. And however much love remains after experiencing a great loss, it incites an emotion that burns with equal parts pain and fondness. It lingers. To the point where long-lost memories emerge and remind you what it means to have moved on or make you wonder why you haven’t. In these moments, our only real choice is to lose ourselves in how it feels: to miss someone, to lose someone, to love something. Even if in that moment you’re worlds apart.”

If you dig the new track, keep an eye out for what’s next from Colony Collapse.
