Bassist J Ryan Bermuda leaving Sleeping Giant

Bassist J Ryan Bermuda will be leaving Sleeping Giant. He took to his blog today to announce his departure.

I’m 28. I feel like I’m 58 and no foolin’. My hearing is shot. My eyes are shot. My spine is constantly in peril. I will not miss touring. I will love being at home with my wife. I will not miss my band mates, we are actually friends and brothers, and will remain that way. I will not miss creating music, I play in a band called Winter/War here in Redlands and write poetry with a community called PoetrIE. I will not miss ministry, my life is ministry. … I’m leaving with nothing but fondness and a full heart. I can not believe what I was just a part of. If you’ve supported SG or myself in even the smallest ways: bought a song on iTunes, let us sleep on your floor, came to a show, said hi on the street; I want to say thank you. You have no idea how rich you’ve made my life.

What I do, and what I’ve done for the past 7 years is not who I am. Nobody can take my identity as a friend and son of God. My confidence and self worth is unshaken because of this. Tommy, Eric, Geoff, Matthew, Travis and Cory- Thank you guys for what you’ve done.

Sleeping Giant was incredibly unique, and, hands down, the most authentic and unabashed believers I’ve ever seen live.
