Alternative metal six-piece Memorist is back with another epic single, “Kijo,” off their upcoming EP, ONI//KIJO. The band recently announced signing to upcoming UK-based label Year Of The Rat Records and released “The Empiric,” “Second Sequence,” and “Slither.” Similar to the band’s three previous singles, “Kijo” spans a colossal sonic and visual landscape while conjuring an equally powerful emotional journey.
Vocalist Jon shares this about the new single:
“’Kijo’ is probably the most similar in style to our original three singles as you can get on the EP, ONI//KIJO. It is a chorus-driven song, with soaring vocals and open instrumentals.
He continues: “There are elements of 80s influence in this song, as well as post-rock and ambient electronica, and it is another song that surprised us all immensely once it was finished. The video for this song is also a bit of a nostalgic nod to our original three singles, as it was filmed in the same place as our very first photoshoot and was entirely DIY, just like our original two videos. Lyrically, it plots the final point on a journey through the EP which explores some challenging themes throughout a relationship breakdown and the resulting emotional wreckage; it ponders “what happens next” after all this has been experienced and dealt with, and leaves a stepping off point at the very end for the next cycle of songs.”
ONI//KIJO is due to release November 12 and is now available for pre-order.
