Today, HM is proud to premiere The World Over’s new single and music video, “Shallow,” from their upcoming EP, Artificial, due to release in August.
Formed in 2014 at L.A. Music Academy, the band tackles the growing issue of shallow gossip and painted rumors in their latest track, standing in the gap for marginalized communities that face systemic hate while finding their voice and exploring their identity.
We spoke to vocalist Tiaday Rocke about the music video:
“To really encapsulate the idea behind reputation slander, rumor spreading and bad publicity, we thought the best way to interpret that visually was to have a blindfolded model stand in front of magazines with outlandish headlines and slash him with red paint. We think it best expresses that when you’re the victim of a rumor being spread about you, you’re getting hacked away at but you’re usually unaware of what’s going on (or you are and you can’t comprehend why). And we the band act almost as the “rumor spreaders” because we’re saying all these things without seeing what’s really going on so our hands end up covered red at the end of the video symbolizing how when you spread false information, the only damage you’re doing is to yourself and less to the source.”
