Battle of the Bands

News 23 Feb 10 By

WHAT: The kickoff event of HAAM’s annual fun-raising and fundraising: the Cirrus Logic monthly “Cirrus Rocks!” concert that will feature live music, friendly challenges by company officers and the Call for Entries for HAAM’s third Corporate Battle of the Bands, the fundraising contest and concert with its Showdown slated for Tuesday, April 20, at Antone’s nightclub.
The local all-girl rock band Adrian & The Sickness will perform. Two Austin-area corporate execs — Jason Rhode, Cirrus Logic president and CEO, and Craig Riha, retail operations director of H-E-B, a new Battle sponsor teaming with Cirrus Logic — will challenge other Austin-area companies to rally their employees and cheer on their own corporate bands, all in support of HAAM’s mission to help provide healthcare services to its member-musicians.
Riha will be joined by company mascot H-E-B Buddy for photographs with the children of Cirrus Logic employees and guests.
HAAM’s Lisa Hickey and Dan Connolly, co-chairmen for Corporate Battle of the Bands 2010, will set the clock: entry deadline is March 22 for bands to be registered; March 24, 11 finalist bands will be chosen and notified. More information and forms are available at www.MyHaam.org.
WHEN: 4-6 p.m. Thursday, February 25
Presentation begins at 5 p.m.
WHERE: Cirrus Logic, 2901 Via Fortuna, off South MoPac Expressway, 512.851.4000
WHO:
Cirrus Logic: Jason Rhode, president and CEO
H-E-B: Craig Riha, retail operations director; H-E-B Buddy
HAAM: Dan Connolly and Lisa Hickey
Adrian Conner, vocalist-lead guitarist of Adrian & The Sickness
WHY: It turns out that a lot of Austin-area business professionals — physicians, lawyers, high-techies and other day-jobbers — perform live music on the side, writing, arranging and rehearsing in garages, clubs and rec rooms around town. It is these musicians who are invited to play before celebrity judges, co-workers and friends to compete for prizes in the Third Annual Corporate Battle of the Bands. At the same time, they get the chance to help the full-time, professional but often uninsured musicians. Proceeds go to maintain and expand the medical, dental, hearing and mental healthcare services provided for member-musicians of Health Alliance for Austin Musicians.
