Cantinas Music Festival Presents Nationally-Acclaimed Christian Dancers ‘The Groovaloos’
Paso Robles, CA Festival Hosts Superstars of Dance Grand Champions, on August 25, 2012

The Cantinas Music Festival, billed as the ‘Christian version of Coachella’, announces the special appearance of award-winning hip-hop dancing troupe The Groovaloos in their first live appearance since their May 2012 debut on NBC’s Dancing with the Stars. The TV show highlighted the inspirational story of Groovaloos member dancer Richard “Steelo” Vazquez’s recovery from a debilitating brain aneurism, through physical therapy, strong faith and back to the stage. Steelo’s Cantinas Music Festival performance, at 6 PM on August 25, 2012 at the Paso Robles Event Center, represents part of his comeback tour.
Based in Los Angeles and founded by artistic director Bradley “Shooz” Rapier, The Groovaloos weave dynamic elements of hip-hop and street dance culture into a mix of storytelling, powerful movement, synchronicity and individual freestyle to music and rhythm. Subscribing to the philosophy that the power of freestyle dance comes from the Spirit of God, the Groovaloos’ audience-participatory performance aims to teach that anyone can be creative and celebrate their own Spirit.
The Groovaloo’s recent national highlights include multiple special guest performances on So You Think You Can Dance and The Wayne Brady Show; U.S. representatives and grand champions on NBC’s SuperStars of Dance; and featured appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Additionally, members of the group have danced with the likes of Madonna, Pink, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Usher, Chris Brown and The Black Eyed Peas among others.
“I am honored to be a part of the Cantinas Music Festival. My heart is aligned with their mission to help the youth find their creativity and guide them to utilize their talents, celebrating who they are and mentoring them to their full potential,” says Rapier, explaining that the troupe regularly performs and works with youth groups and school audiences to help the youth learn to believe in themselves. “Freestyle is infectious; it’s about being honest with yourself and believing that you can do and be anything.”
The Groovaloos dance performances will start at 6 PM, along with Christian music performances by MercyMe, the number one Christian rock group in the US with over seven million albums sold, The Newsboys, a GRAMMY nominated and DOVE Award winning band; Building 429; and new pop artist, Kylie Hughes.
