How does the new website work?

Let me repeat the question. (just kidding) We’re loving this new website design. We have some work to do (like adding archives from the old site that we’d like to keep around; and finding a password-protected place for new issue content to lay), but we’re happy with our new digs.

Just in case you were wondering where and how to find stuff, I’ll answer a few questions.

Q. Where are the intern diaries?
A. Like most anything on the site, it’s located on the “interior pages.” The main/front page shows a little of what’s inside, but when you want to read any of those articles or basically clicking on any link on the front page, it takes you to an “interior page.” It is there that you’ll find all sorts of stuff, like:

Tour Dates
Contest Info
Intern Diaries
Album Reviews
So & So Says Archives
an FAQ page (with info on subscriptions, advertising, getting your band reviewed, writing for HM, photography, etc)
and more…

Q. What about the “online/digital issue?”
A. You get there from the link at the top of the main/front page or on the side navigation links on an interior page. Once you click on the “View digital issue” link you’ll be taken to the online browser at http://hm.realviewusa.com , and when you click on the left or right arrows to turn the page (or look at the index or archives), you’ll be asked for a user name and password. If you subscribe to HM, you have this info. If you don’t subscribe (and why don’t you…really?), then you won’t.

Q. Well, wait a minute…
A. Okay, if you’re curious about HM, you can click on the “archive” button at the bottom of the online/digital issue browser, and it’ll show you the two+ years’ worth of issues we have in full online. If you scroll all the way to the right, you will discover that the Jan/Feb 2007 issue is FREE and you can view every page of that issue. Now that you’ve tasted and seen that HM is good (we hope), why don’t you subscribe?

Q. What’s new with HM’s site?
A. Besides the new look, we’re working on getting a special spot where the online issue will be a web page, so you won’t have to zoom in to read the text, etc. I hope to have that up sometime around/before September 1st. I will also give subscribers the option to download a pdf file, so if they want to view it the “old fashioned way” (did I just refer to an online mag browser as “old fashioned?” Oh my…) then you can do this with your version of Adobe Acrobat / Reader, which you can download for free. The Mozilla Firefox plug-in gives you a custom HM-branded browser, which has some media buttons, to hear any HM podcast stream from this browser, as well as showing you thumbnails of the video playlist we have.

Q. What’s a new album that’s good I should buy?
A. Wow! There’s a lot, actually. I’m enjoying the Beatles covers EP by House of Heroes, the new MUTEMATH, and the new Showbread.
