Unless you\u2019ve been in a seriously deep sleep during the past\ndecade, you know that vinyl records have made a huge comeback. This was such an\nunfathomable idea back in the late \u201880s and early \u201890s when the pristine digital\ncleanliness of sound in the compact disc was flourishing. If you\u2019ve ever wanted\nto get a crystalized explanation of how and why it happened, this documentary\nis for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Released a year ago by MVD Entertainment Group, the\n43-minute documentary takes a decidedly UK street-level view by featuring lots\nof interviews with independent record shop owners. It\u2019s no surprise that Record\nStore Day annual promotion is talked about a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s so cool to see my Russian roommate, Barry Taylor, make\nan appearance here. He shared a room with me during the First Arts & Music\nFestival in Saint Petersburg back in \u201991. He\u2019s a Professor of Culture and\nPhilosophy, and he had a few words to say about the revival:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m delighted at the idea of a return to vinyl. People who\nlost vinyl in the sort of sonic wars, I think there\u2019s a recovery for that group\nof people, which is both nostalgia and reassurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNow, it\u2019s an aesthetic choice, so it\u2019s part of the fabric\nof youth culture \u2013 again.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It would be nice to see more of an aerial overview of the\nentire industry, but this documentary makes the point that vinyl is back and\nlikely here to stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
