I haven’t watched the GRAMMY’s in years, and last night was no exception. This time I missed a performance by U2 of their catchy melodic song, “Get Out of Your Own Way<\/a>,” staged on top of a barge in New York Harbor under the gaze of the Statue of Liberty. Bono once again took a stab at our fine president, but that’s not new.<\/p>\n

What else is not new is their familiarity with the GRAMMY’s. They’ve been nominated 46 times and have won 22 times \u2014 the most of any rock band.<\/p>\n

Bono and The Edge of U2 began music\u2019s biggest night alongside 2018 Album of the Year nominee Kendrick Lamar, contributing guitar and vocals to \u201cXXX” from Lamar\u2019s\u00a0DAMN<\/em>, which garnered seven nominations and five wins this year.<\/p>\n

Bono and The Edge were later joined by Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen for a visually stunning performance of \u201cGet Out Of Your Own fun Way\u201d staged on a barge in New York Harbor under the gaze of the Statue of Liberty.<\/p>\n

\u201cGet Out Of Your Own Way\u201d features lyrics written by Bono for his daughters and has since been adopted by many as a human rights anthem.\u00a0Tonight\u00a0the song found new resonance played under the watchful eyes of Omaima, the teenaged Syrian refugee who graced U2\u2019s stage on the Joshua Tree 2017 tour as part of a powerful film created by the artist JR.<\/p>\n

U2 were introduced by Latin GRAMMY award winner Camila Cabello, who reminded us that America is a country Built by Dreamers, for Dreamers, chasing the American Dream, by reciting the “lines of world-wide welcome\u201d from Emma Lazarus\u2019 The New Colossus.<\/p>\n

Finally the singer and guitarist of the only group to win Album of the Year twice\u2014in 1988 for\u00a0The Joshua Tree<\/em>\u00a0and in 2006 for\u00a0How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb<\/em>\u2014Bono and The Edge were proud to present the award for Album of the Year to winner Bruno Mars.<\/p>\n
