In the garden before His arrest, beating, mockery of a trial, torture and death, Jesus was praying. He was actually asking God for an escape. An immediate and sudden change of plans were what He requested. But I’m getting ahead of myself, probably.<\/p>\n

We don’t know if He prayed the same thing over and over. At first He might have been praying for courage. I’m sure he was frightened. He had asked His closest friends to stay awake and pray with Him. When He constantly found them dozing off and sleeping, He told them,<\/p>\n

“My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death … why can’t you stay up and pray with Me?”<\/p>\n

He really could’ve used a hug at that point. I hope one of His disciples (John, maybe?) did give Him a hug. It was THE dark night of the soul for Jesus.<\/p>\n

Later on He asked God to give Him an out, a change of plans. “…if there’s any way I can keep from drinking this cup…” He asked.<\/p>\n

But then He said the one word that changed the universe – “NEVERTHELESS.”<\/p>\n
