ONE Campaign present at ACL Festival

News 16 Sep 11 By

This year, ONE, the anti-poverty advocacy campaign co-founded by U2’s Bono, is hosting a tent as part of ACL Cares at Austin City Limits.  Over the three-day festival, ONE volunteers will be out in force to recruit ACL fans in the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease.

In addition to signing up at the ONE booth, music fans can take a picture showing their support for effective U.S. efforts that are saving lives. The photos will be sent to key lawmakers asking them to support the less than 1% of the U.S. budget dedicated to poverty-fighting programs that make an incredible difference in the lives of those living on less than $1.25 a day.

“ONE’s participation in ACL Cares is such a great opportunity to educate people about the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease,” said Ana Rivera, ONE Campus Leader at University of Texas Austin and volunteer at Austin City Limits. “I am excited to engage ACL Festival goers to join ONE and use their voices to raise public awareness on these issues and to pressure political leaders to support effective policies that can save lives.”

With more than 13 million Africans suffering as a result of the worst drought in 60 years and famine that has claimed the lives of 40,000 children in the last three months, ONE will also be gathering signatures for a petition asking world leaders to address this growing crisis and to invest in long-term solutions to prevent future famine and food shortages. You can find the petition at one.org.

ONE Field Organizer, Maura Daley, will be manning the ONE tent and is available to tell you more about our efforts.  The ONE tent is located in the ACL Cares area, next to the Barton Springs entrance and BMI Stage. No stranger to music festivals and concerts, ONE has signed up more than 100,000 ONE members over the past year at Lollapalooza and on tour with U2, Daughtry, and Maroon 5.

ONE is an advocacy organization dedicated to the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease around the world, particularly in Africa.  Backed by more than 2.5 million members, we work with government leaders in both parties to support proven, cost-effective solutions to save lives and build sustainable futures. At ONE, we’re not asking for you money, we’re asking for your voice!   To learn more, go to ONE.org.
