To Speak Of Wolves Plan August Tour
TO SPEAK OF WOLVES burst into the national metal consciousness with the May release of their brutally brilliant debut full-length, Myself < Letting Go, on Solid State Records. Now, armed with an internet buzz and an album that’s received praise from AOL/NOISECREEP, ALTERNATIVE PRESS, DECOY MUSIC and more, TO SPEAK OF WOLVES are ready to take it to the fans and the unconverted this summer with live dates alongside BECOMING THE ARCHETYPE and previously announced dates supporting UNDEROATH throughout August. Mixed by metal mastermind Jason Suecof (ALL THAT REMAINS, AUGUST BURNS RED, TRIVIUM), Myself < Letting Go is the debut full-length from the North Carolina five-piece. The band has crafted an album that careens wildly between brutally bombastic riffage and soaring, arena-worthy choruses. On the impressive debut, vocalist Rick Jacob’s voice both hammers and haunts, vaulting seamlessly from sky-high melodies to visceral screams. Tour Dates: 8/2 – Reno, NV 8/4 – Boulder, CO 8/5 – Lawrence, KS 8/6 – Oklahoma City, OK 8/7 – Jackson, MS 8/8 – Mobile, AL 8/10 – Toledo, OH 8/11 – Westland, MI 8/12 – Richmond, IN 8/13 – Owensboro, KY 8/14 – Columbia, SC 8/15 – Trinity, AL Owl City News
While he’s just finished “re-polishing” his old songs — the one’s he’ll release next month as Sky Sailing — Adam Young also has a whole batch of new songs in the hopper too that he’ll be releasing as Owl City, much to the delight of his rather fervent fanbase. “At the moment, I’m working on new Owl City stuff, and between now and the beginning of August, the plan is to write and record the new album,” Young told MTV News last week. “It’s early, but the vision for this record is already sort of taking shape. … Basically, I want to take the best bits and moments that worked from the last record and make them more polished.” That dude loves polishing, doesn’t he? Young said he also has “a flash drive full” of possible song and album titles, but right now, he’s less interested in specifics and more focused on cultivating the overall feeling of the record, which he says will be a bit of a departure from his breakout Ocean Eyes disc. “This one, it’s a little shinier, not quite so organic. … It’s almost airbrushed, and there’s a variety of songs,” he said. “A bit dreamier, the melodies are a bit stronger and more powerful, and the lyrics are a bit wittier. It’s more of a complete piece [than Ocean Eyes], really.” While Young could write and record the new Owl City disc — which he said is due in “early to mid-December” — practically anywhere, he’s not straying far from the formula he perfected on Ocean Eyes: The new OC album will still be a basement affair. The only difference is that, now, millions of folks will be waiting to hear what he comes up with. Then again, that’s not exactly a bad problem to have, and he knows it. “It’s amazing to me that, now, people are interested in the music, so there’s a pressure, I guess. But, thanks to the success of the last one, I toured a lot, and I was basically playing the same songs every day for six months,” he said. “You hear things in songs you didn’t hear when you first recorded them, so now I know what direction I want to steer things in. There’s definitely a vision this time, and it’s exciting to have one of those.”

Open A&R policy Adopted By Inpop Records
Inpop Records has announced a new policy for talent scouting and overseeing the artistic development of new artists. Moving forward, the label will extend an open invitation to any artist, manager, publisher, talent scout, or producer who would like to submit new music for consideration. The initiative is intended to expand Inpop Records’ potential talent pool, affording the label exposure to a wider spectrum of music styles and artists. It will also help to build relationships with up-and-coming music producers and other future industry gatekeepers as well. Inpop Records’ General Manager Andrew Patton explains, “The ever-changing nature of our industry necessitates a change in the way we find talent as well. It only makes sense to link arms with all of those who are on the front end of working and developing music’s future stars. I believe it’s in the best interest of Inpop to have as wide a pool as possible when considering future artists.” The new policy is effective immediately. Complete information on the submission process and procedure can be received via email from andrew@inpop.com.

Athlete On Dr. Who
U.K. buzz band Athlete can now boast of being the only band to be heard through all of time and space. The band’s classic song “Changes” will be used as the first ever rock song on the longest-running science fiction television show in the world, Doctor Who. The song plays at a key point in the upcoming episode “Vincent And The Doctor” which can be seen for the first time in the U.S. on BBC America this Saturday night June 26th at 9pm. The series, which now stars Matt Smith as the 11th incarnation of the Doctor, has drawn raves on both sides of the Atlantic. Writer Richard Curtis (Nothing Hill, Love Actually, Four Weddings and a Funeral) penned the episode and personally requested the song’s use. “We are delighted that our song Chances was chosen by the legendary Richard Curtis to be used in Doctor Who,” commented lead singer Joel Pott. “The show is such a long standing and iconic BBC drama and to be the first band to ever have a song on the soundtrack really is an honour.” Athlete are currently in the middle of a spring / summer U.S. tour in support of their latest album, Black Swan. The band’s new album is a musical summary of everything Athlete has been through, the good, the bad and the ugly. But although its songs burn with literate emotion, this certainly isn’t a downbeat record. In fact, the album begins with the hurtling FM rush of the glorious track, “Superhuman Touch,” which catapults the album to life with the opening line, “I’m on fire and nothing’s gonna hold me back.” Produced by the esteemed Tom Rothrock (Foo Fighters, Elliott Smith, Elbow, Beck), Black Swan positively glows with snagging melodies, rich musicality and the band’s heartfelt tales. These songs together make Black Swan the strongest album Athlete has ever recorded. The reaction to Black Swan has been nothing short of overwhelming both here and in the UK with Alternative Press stating, ““If proper venues for a band called Athlete are Stadiums, then this southeast London quartet have finally made an album worthy of their name… super-earnest reflections with melodies and arrangements direct and sturdy enough to bear the emotional weight.” NME proclaiming, “Awash with gorgeous melodies, the best thing they’ve ever done.” And Q Magazine raving: “Strong results… from the rueful to the thunderous. A band reborn.” Athlete first rose to prominence seven years ago with the spirited, electro-tinged, indie-pop of their Mercury-nominated debut, Vehicles And Animals, Athlete have established themselves among the UK’s finest songsmiths. The southeast Londoners have sold more than a million copies of their three hit albums (the other two being 2005’s Tourist and 2007’s Beyond The Neighbourhood); packed out venues across the world; picked up an Ivor Novello award; and topped both the UK’s album and airplay charts.

Jars Of Clay News
Multi-Platinum and three-time Grammy Award-winning band Jars of Clay, long ambitious in their plans for their charitable organization Blood:Water Mission, teamed up with K-LOVE and Air 1 radio stations to raise the necessary funds and awareness to complete Blood:Water Mission’s 1000 Wells Project, which was launched in 2005. The band joined forces with K-LOVE and Air 1 for a day-long Well Done Campaign radio-thon Tuesday, June 8, and raised over $860,000 for Blood:Water Mission. These donations will fund the construction of 95 water projects, leaving the organization only 15 shy of their 1000-well goal. In 2005, Jars of Clay and K-LOVE conducted a similar event to launch B:WM’s 1000 Wells Project to help provide access to clean water to communities in sub-Saharan Africa, and with the completion of that campaign in sight, the groups convened again to help get that project to the finish line and set up Blood:Water’s next phase of operations. Jars of Clay front man Dan Haseltine reflects, “This was one of the most amazing displays of generosity I have experienced. It is hard to imagine that a single day of radio can turn into clean water for thousands of Africans. This will save so many lives!” Throughout the day, Jars of Clay shared the stories of individuals they have met through the years in sub-Saharan Africa: stories of dignity, hope, and truth, stories of communities impacted because of the generous support of donors around the world.
