A True Rock Hero Passes Away
Michael Been, vocalist and guitarist of ’80s band The Call, and father of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s Robert Been, passed away today in Belgium, after suffering a heart attack backstage. Been was on tour with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, acting as their sound engineer. He was 60. The Call erupted on the scene with a passionate sound and a strong political message, and earned numerous hits, including “The Walls Came Down,” “I Still Believe (Great Design)” and “Let the Day Begin,” which climbed to #1 on the Rock chart. Their fans included Peter Gabriel, Robbie Robertson, and Bono, all contributing to albums, and Gabriel deeming them “the future of American music.” Been was not only the father of Robert Been but a significant part of BRMC’s development. Often referenced as their fourth member, Been spent countless hours in the studio acting in many roles from mentor and guide, to helping the now internationally revered band capture their sound to tape. He acted as co-producer and engineer on numerous BRMC albums and was their loyal sound engineer for as many years.

Adam Dutkiewiez and Jesse Leach Re-Team
Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz and former KsE vocalist Jesse Leach are re-teaming for Times of Grace, a brand new band that finds the duo taking a creative left turn, boldly exploring new musical terrain, while fearlessly digging deep into the recesses of their musical synergy. It has yielded a provocative, heavy-yet-melodic result, one that helped each of them overcome personal struggles and emerge from the darkness, more empowered than ever. The pair’s collaborative energy and chemistry obviously yields quality, long-lasting results, as they worked together on KsE’s benchmark album, 2002’s Alive or Just Breathing. That record has become definitive for an entire generation of American metal, with Leach’s voice and uplifting lyrics serving as one of the key elements that propelled the album to “modern classic” status. Leach, who went on to sing for the more classic-rock leaning Seemless and who currently sings for the metal band The Empire Shall Fall, was always remembered fondly by KsE fans, even though he left the band shortly after Alive or Just Breathing’s release. While fans will no doubt be thrilled at the concept of the duo reuniting, Times of Grace, however, are not interested in fashioning Alive or Just Breathing, Part II. It’s an entirely new project and represents a different musical path for both Adam D. and Leach! It is an album of cleansing and catharsis for each of them, where internal demons were exorcised and set to music that’s as aggressive as it is melodic. The pair are currently in the studio working on their debut, The Hymn of A Broken Man, which is due out November 9 through Roadrunner Records. “In all my life. I have yet to write a record that bares my soul as much as this record does,” Leach said. “Adam and I had a real spiritual connection while making this and I know that it comes through in the performances and lyrics. This record has our blood, sweat and tears flowing through it. It is painfully honest at times. In short this record is our catharsis.” Adam D. also commented on what Times of Grace means for him personally, saying, “Making this record was something completely new for me. It documents some of the most difficult, yet spirited times of my life in the past three-and-a-half years. A lot of the music and lyrics just came out of me while going through several internal struggles, and writing these songs were the only comfort I could find. I reached out to Jesse to help sing and write these songs with me because of my respect for his musical abilities, and because of our great friendship…one that seems to not change no matter what happens in our lives. “In the end, I am very proud of this record, and I feel it has helped me through some of my darkest days. I’m hoping that people will enjoy it, and also that it can maybe help others to keep the most positive mindset, even through the most trying of times.” The album begins with the percussive, almost militaristic “Strength in Numbers,” which pairs layered vocal melodies with thunderously roaring drumbeats; “Fight For Life” bites with ferocity, but is balanced out by Leach’s emotive vocals; while “Willing” boasts a more contemplative yet just as feral vibe. Times of Grace aren’t going back over ground that its members have already covered; they’re moving forward, incorporating stunning, eye-arresting visuals alongside their music, which features rich layers of instrumentation that invite the listener to sift through. The track listing for the album is as follows; the song titles reflect the sentiment of catharsis that is the common thread running through The Hymn of a Broken Man.

Strength in Numbers
Fight For Life
Willing
Where The Spirit Leads Me
Until The End Of Days
Live In Love
In the Arms of Mercy

I Am Alpha And Omega Update
After weeks of seeming silence, the IAAAO guys speak up: These last couple months have been a confusing and difficult time of learning. We will do our very best to keep this short, while doing our best of explaining why things have taken so long. When we initially delayed the release of the record, it was because a label had showed tremendous interest in working with us and releasing “The Roar And The Whisper”. We were given a contract, but the contract didn’t have enough substance for us to be able to move forward. We began negotiating, meanwhile a second label approached us. At this point the talks went back and forth for a time, while you all sat and waited. During this time, because of the nature of contracts and negotiating, we were unable to say virtually anything, hoping it would be resolve quickly. Last week, one of those labels mistakenly released the record digitally to a few outlets, without any contract in place. We are currently working the issue out with them. After these setbacks, we prayed and discussed the situation. It’s come to a point where we do not want to continue this process, with this record. We are told it could take much longer, and you would have to continue to wait. You’ve waited long enough. This was new for us, and we didn’t expect for it all to take so much time, nor did we expect so much… uncertainty. We sincerely apologize to all of you. To anyone who is reading this, thank you. Thank you for sticking this out with us. Thank you for pre-ordering, coming to a show, sending us a message. You all have met us with a tremendous amount of grace and patience that can only be explained by a loving Father above.
Now on to the positive:
1. We will be sending out pre-order packages on September 3rd.
2. The official national release date for the album is September 5th 2010. We are proud and blessed to be releasing this on Come and Live, who have been our family for over 18 months now. We will be offering two songs from the record for free on comeandlive.com in the next few days, stay tuned to C&L for more info. We will also have physical copies of the new record at our show at the Revelation Generation Festival in Frenchtown,NJ on the 5th.
3. The drawings for the prizes will be taking place on Wednesday, August 25th 7pm EST live on Stickam, we can’t wait to give away the prizes and hang out with all of you!
4. There will be more information and news regarding the record, please keep tuned for more stuff coming!
In Christ,
The IAAAO Boys.

The 4000 maximum capacity crowd howled in excitement as the 5 members of As I Lay Dying broke into the set opener ‘94 Hours.’ The bone shattering bass drum was felt by all across the floor and up into the Palladium’s balconies.
